good friends

I want to tell you that I am very grateful that you created Goodyoga.

It's probably the best yoga studio I will ever walk in to.

As I continue on my yogic path, and I'm not talking about asana, I realize more and more how important it was that I stepped into that studio, ashram, community, insane asylum, whatever you want to call it, and you are responsible for bringing all the elements together.

The day I walked in, I felt that there was a reason I walked in, like it was destined for me to be a part of that place for a period of time. The exposure I received there was more than anything I could have imagined.

It changed my life. I mean I'm still the same fuck up, but it allowed something to grow in me that was otherwise buried. So, thank you.

I will always be grateful for every experience, in that warehouse that transformed into a haven for learning that you can't find in most studios these days. Nothing compares.

There is a part of me that wishes I never left Goodyoga. I loved working there. It was the only job I felt really connected to. Once I left and moved back to Israel, my practice was never the same.

Flannery and I met when my wife and I moved above her business as she was moving back in post pandemic. We became fast friends, worked together on ad partnerships with Brooklyn Magazine, and became neighbors when she moved across the hall from us.

She is a great friend and a great person to work with. What she has done with the space is amazing and I am a regular user of all the facilities. The passion Flannery puts into the business is so great to see. She is building a thoughtful community and having fun doing it.

As the publisher of Brooklyn Magazine we have always enjoyed partnering with her business. All the people I have met that worked for her were really nice people. She has a knack for design and really knows how to hold the place down.

I cannot say enough nice things about Flannery Foster. If you have a chance to get into business with her I would jump on the opportunity.

Flannery and Goodyoga were not just an average NYC yoga instructor and studio.

As a student with spinal deformity, I have always struggled to keep up with some courses. At Goodyoga, I was given a framework to get the most out of each flow within my ability, and this has served me in every other course.

Flannery’s insistence on safety is one reason
(among many) that I've always treasured my
time with Goodyoga.

I completed my yoga teacher training program with Goodyoga a few years back. During my time, I was not only looking for a way to expand my practice but more so for a way to expand myself.

That summer, Flannery shared her space, knowledge, discipline, and kindness. Through her personal stories, I saw that I also could achieve my dreams. Through her community building, I saw the power of creating a space for togetherness, which can also be lucrative. From a business perspective, I saw her hold high standards for herself and her employees.

I first met Flannery when I walked into Goodyoga in August of 2022 as an interested neighbor, and in the 8 months since have been her customer, student, staff, mentee and friend. I have been impressed and helped to heal by Flannery’s deep knowledge of yoga, both the physical Asana we all think of, and the more metaphysical tenets of the 8 fold path. I have been dazzled by her ceaseless drive and unstoppable creativity. I have benefited greatly from her mentorship and advice.

When I first showed up at Goodyoga, I was seeking a routine to help manage chronic back pain. Simultaneously, I was (and still am) in a time of personal discovery as I explore a pivot from a career in tech to something rooted in helping others heal their bodies, which has become a passion after years of my own experience of pain and dysfunction. She provided a space where I felt free to share my thoughts and dreams, and where I immediately began showing up every single morning to take care of my body and mind and critically, I experienced positive change.

My daily practice soon became a work exchange, as I expressed an interest in learning more about the business of yoga and wellness, and a desire to learn from what she was making happen at Goodyoga. In relating to me as both a student and staff at Goodyoga, Flannery has always endeavored to be explicit, upfront, and fair in establishing expectations and agreements. Throughout the undeniably turbulent period these past months have been for her small business, Flannery has maintained these standards. I always feel I have the opportunity to speak about our working relationship and be heard. I trust that we both want what is best for one another, for Goodyoga and the people that passed through and joined us there.

Since joining Goodyoga, it has remained a constant for me, week after week. The space remained somewhere I could learn, grow, and heal. Flannery is beyond impressive. She is a font of ideas, from business plans to branding and marketing. Her willingness to try new things and to let go of ideas that have not proven useful is exceptional.

Her tenacity, confidence and knowledge run deep, and she shares these superpowers generously with those around her. Personally, mentorship and self exploration with Flannery led me to spend the month of January in Chiang Mai, Thailand studying Thai massage.

I am so excited and grateful to have had this opportunity to expand my skills in the direction of a healing profession. It is because of Flannery’s guidance, and her belief in my ability to succeed in such a dramatic departure from my current work as a software engineer, that I have taken these first steps towards a long-dreamed-of career pivot. She helped me turn an amorphous idea about a 3 year old aspiration into a concrete action plan, bolstered by the offer of collaboration and continued mentorship upon my return. It is my sincere hope that whatever the next iterations of Gooddeed may look like, I can continue to be involved and to grow there as well.

I have no doubt that regardless of what comes next for Flannery, it will be a success. She is a force.

I was a student at Goodyoga for many years before I moved to Berlin. I’ve never found a studio just like that, the tranquility, personality, professionalism and just generally good vibes made Goodyoga my sanctuary to stay sane in this crazy city of NY. I’ve found your classes particularly inspiring and motivating.

One line I keep telling myself over and over again through my practice is “look forward. There is a lot to look forward to”. That always makes me smile. I have a lot of respect for how professionally and passionately you run your business. It was felt throughout. Thank you for the experience and keeping me alive in the NYC hustle.

I've known Flannery for over twenty years. We met doing theater in New York City, and I was immediately struck by her talent, confidence, and good humor. In an industry known for cutthroat competition, Flannery stood out as a principled, focused collaborator, someone who instinctively understood the value of an ensemble succeeding together.

As I've continued to navigate a career in the arts, she's remained a steadfast counselor, enthusiastic cheerleader, and singular friend. I respect her candor, trust her aesthetic, and admire her generosity.

When she set her sights on pursuing yoga, I witnessed how expertly Flannery was able to apply the skills she'd learned as an artist to her entrepreneurial endeavors. Unendingly curious, she threw herself into learning the fundamentals of the field and envisioning its future.

She made believers of us all-- friends, colleagues, strangers-- and grew her business with passion, integrity, and remarkable speed. I'm so proud of what she's accomplished and find myself continually inspired by her ability to persevere as the world (inevitably) shifts.

I have known Flannery for twenty five years and have watched with great admiration as she has successfully grown her business.

She is an intelligent, committed, diligent and forward-thinking expert in her field. I have always been impressed by Flannery's ambition, as it is rooted in integrity and curiosity, and I'm excited to see where that ambition takes her next.
